Helmut Ziehe received his Dipl.-Ing. Architect degree from the Technical University in Berlin in 1964 and later a post graduate degree in Tropical Architecture from the AA School of Architecture in London.
His professional architectural experience includes the planning of hospitals, hotels, housing units for small communities and small scale industrial developments. His managerial skills were acquired as an employee in both small and large firms, by studying business administration, and by running his own architectural firm. He has worked and lived in many countries in Europe, including Sweden, Denmark, Greece, and Great Britain, as well as in North Africa and Nicaragua.
In 1980, he first learned of Bau-biologie, studying with one of the founders of
the movement, Professor Anton Schneider, and later translating Professor Schneider's
Correspondence Course from German into English. In 1984 he founded the International
Institute for Bau-biologie and Ecology (IBE) in England and brought it to the
United States in 1986.
