James D'Angelo, PhD, has had a multifaceted career as a music professor in higher education, classical/jazz pianist, organist, composer, workshop leader, lecturer and writer on therapeutic sound and esoteric/metaphysical subjects. His early career was spent in the USA (New York) and in 1984 he made a transition to the UK (London). This CV primarily focuses on his work and research into music and sound as modes for self-realization and wholeness. EDUCATION 1983 Awarded PhD degree from New York University for his research into the music theory, philosophy and metaphysics of the 20th century German composer Paul Hindemith as reflected in his magnum opus, the opera The Harmony of the Universe based on the life of the astronomer Johannes Kepler. Previous degrees awarded by the Manhattan School of Music in New York: Bachelor and Master of Music. TEACHING IN HIGHER EDUCATION 1970-1986 Reached
the level of associate professor of music within the City University of New York CURRENT WORK Since 1994 James has developed courses that join the theory and practice of therapeutic sound primarily through the voice (toning, chanting and overtoning) but also through tuning forks. He has become an international speaker on the broader subject of vibration in all its aspects - the macrocosmic and microcosmic worlds, Eastern models of holistic sound, musical models of the universe, cymatics and the application of vibration for healing mind, body and spirit The culmination of this work to date was the publication of his book Healing With the Voice (2000, Thorsons, division of HarperCollins). An expanded version of this book with an added CD has just been published in July 2005 by Healing Arts Press, a division of Inner Traditions International (USA). This book is endorsed by the leading figure in the field of healing with sound, Don Campbell as well as by Jonathan Goldman and Joshua Leeds.

A published and commercially recorded composer, I continue to concertize as a soloist as well as with singers and instrumentalists. More details can be supplied if needed.
